Blue Christmas

Tried my hand at making milkweed pod ornaments for Christmas. Turned out that rotated around in a mandala they make a nice star burst! So got two creative projects out of one. Hope we all have a good Holiday season! Stay Safe and Be Well!

Greenhouse flowers

Since I am not going to the Botanic Gardens these days the nearest source of flower color these fall days is a nursery! Lateris and lilies for color!

That is the name of this flower it forms on a tall stalk and could easily hang over a garden gate. Liked the shadows and the star in the middle!

Most of the leaves have fallen but this was the view one day last summer. We are having weather in the 70s today, nice and pleasent!

Summer is winding down even thou we continue to be warmer than usual. Plants are turning brown and the milkweed seed flies.

It’s almost mid October and still have pumpkins growing. the curling tendrils fascinate me, Enjoy!

I have collected feathers all summer , big one is red tailed howk, flicker, owl, magpie, and others. it's fun just to find them on the ground - a gift of nature.

the real name of this plant is Kiss me over the garden gate, it reseeds itself from year to year so I have them popping up in various places. I just love the mane

We are still going to have 90s this weekend but cooler weather is coming! Things are going to seed, nature herself saying get ready!

Had a bumper crop of cherry tomatoes they are a nice bright red and give a little burst of flavor!

Had fun playing around with the corn and morning glory pictures. You have to be out early to see the morning glories open - heat of the day shrivels them up. There are good shadows in the morning, too.

Rain lily

Received Rain Lily bulbs a couple years ago - when I figured out they were not hardy in Colorado, I just stuck them in random pots. They seem to have come of age this year and are blooming all over in various pots. It is fun to get a bloom where you weren't expecting one! the ones in the picture were a bunch of 5 plus flowers that opened all at once!

Morning Glory Stripes

My morning glories have started blooming, I have to look early as the sun destroys them in short order. I have pink, purple and one white one; the blue never materialized this year. Am glad for their return each summer. They are climbing any plant that is near them, like my pencil plant in this mandala, tomato cages and even the corn! Lines of the siding make the background.

The stalwart of the garden, the geranium! I keep sticking cuttings of my salmon colored geraniums in other pot so now have several plants now! you can always count on them for color in the garden. Liked the simplicity of this mandala.

dandelion fluff

A pile of dandelion seeds you would not want to see in your lawn. They make a pretty design. Found these in the mountains, where some really healthy specimens grow!

Saw these words on a T-shirt and liked them. My garden is my salvation in these times of staying home. The pumpkin and squash I planted are putting up their first leaves.

I watched this tree for a month, waiting for leaves to come out. The squirrel was watching too, nice new growth to feast on!

another blue and white mandala, but this one is clouds and blue sky - the last one was snow and grape hyacinths! It's supposed to get to 70 today.

a warmer week ahead

Grape hyacinth in the snow, when it got down to 12 degrees I thought I had lost them but they are back standing up and looking fine now. We have 2 weeks of warmer weather and no freezes, however, this is Colorado, we usually don't plant anything tender out until after May 10th!

Have been cloud watching lately. Saw a dragon cloud on edge of this mandala. There is plenty of time to cloud watch but not today as there is a freezing rain at the moment. It has been nice to get out in the yard and watch spring come to my backyard! Small pleasures in our lock down life.

different kind of tree

Took a glass etching (sand blasting) class years ago, thought I'd make the tree into a Mandala. I like the blue-ish color and the sort of 'sand dollar' appearance in the middle.

waiting for spring

'To op their trunks the trees are never seen. How then do they put on their coats of green? They leaf them out, they leaf them out!' this is a song I learned long years ago and at the end a hand gesture of opening. Ready for Spring!

A tiny white flower no bigger that a finger nail is blooming on a cactus in the sunroom. I'm just glad something is blooming!

dried weeds

Dried weeds are about all that is in the garden here at the end of winter. There are interesting subtle colors, all is not gray. A couple things are blooming inside, did get some seeds in the mail and we will have several days in a row above 60. 3 Cheers!!

waves

Looking for mandala with Water as the subject I came across this one taken of waves in Hawaii. it is titled "After the Crash" we were looking down on the ocean from above. Patterns that form in the process of making these Mandala always amaze me. There is almost a three dimensional ring mid way in the circle.

Layers

Felt layered with beads, paper, plastic and glass. My felt flower made into another flower! Just because.

snow and more snow

It's great for the skiers but hard on the folks who have to shovel the sidewalks! After a while the piles are too high to stack any more, fortunately in the Denver area it does melt a bit. But more is expected Monday night! This mandala is snowy branches with ornament like images forming between the bigger branches.
