the display

This is one of the orchids I put out with the staghorn fern. After the blooms quit I un-potted it to find there were no viable roots, so we are hoping it will recover outside.

mini orchid

A mini orchid in front of a mini barn, flowers in the middle. The image is a bit hard to read. I'll post the original image tomorrow. I have most of my fairy gardens outside now. They enjoy the summer outdoors and I get to clean up the sunroom. Orchids don't usually go outside, but I thought I'd experiment. I have a giant Staghorn Fern that has a cavity in it's middle so I put two mini orchids in the cavity, including the one above, they seem to be doing well growing new roots. They are totally in the shade of a big pine tree. I'll report back later.

orchid heart

My interest in vegetables didn't last long, I like my flowers better. Oh well, went to the Botanic gardens to see the orchid display and had fun taking pictures. This mandala is one of the lady slipper orchids they had on display. Outer ring is the striped top petal, the heart of the orchid is a small whitish glow just below that, spotted side petals - then the reddish slipper part is in the middle of the mandala. I'll post the regular picture tomorrow.

Dancing Orchids

There are the tiny orchids which make a nice overall pattern. They are so light and delicate. These are a yellow and red-brown.

A Study in Purple

The Denver Botanic Gardens has a beautiful orchid display this month. This purple orchid was one of them. I liked the pastel feeling and the way the patterns overlapped.

Orchid Fairy

Orchid Fairy - those of you who read the blog last spring know I have a thing for Flower Fairy gardens, to me this is a ballerina fairy - the buds of the orchid are her toe shoes and the bright spot is her head.  I posted this to Facebook but apparently it didn't take, because these few days later I cannot find it on my Nature Mandala site or my regular site and the link to this blog doesn't work.  So don't know what to say, except enjoy it here!

the flowers inside

A purple and white orchid has been gracing my counter in the sun room, the blooms have lasted at least a month. Ample opportunity to take pictures! At the Gateway Show in Aurora, one mandala won 1st place, I'm grateful for the space to show my work.
