Glider Port

On our last day in San Diego we drove up the coast and found the Torey Pines Glider Port.  They were doing tandem jumps off the cliffs above the ocean.  they would very effortlessly step off tera firma and float off into the air.  It was neat to watch.

Koi

There are a lot of Koi ponds in Maui, watching those big fish is mesmerizing.   I liked the color patterns made by the u shaped white fish and the v shaped orange fish and if you look close there is a dark fish with orange lips near the middle.

While in San Diego we went to see the USS Midway aircraft carrier permanently docked in San Diego Bay.  It was neat and huge!  Besides all the planes they had a couple models of aircraft carriers, the details of one are in the mandala above.

Bird's Nest Fern

Life unfurling has always intrigued me.  I found some tree ferns to take a picture of on my last trip.  Makes one think of stretching out the arms.

Bird's Nest Fern

The bird's nest fern in Balboa Park in San Diego was huge, outside fronds were about 5 feet tall. but for me it is the inner unfurling at the center that is interesting to watch.

Flamingos

Flamingos from the San Diego Zoo!  There were lots of them and they were talking up a storm.  This is a picture of them feeding.  There are only two in the original picture, but this gives the feel of the many that were there.

Staghorn Fern

The Staghorn Ferns in Balboa Park at the botanic garden area and in the San Diego Zoo were huge.  3 and 4 times the size of the one I am growing.  Thought I would do a series on them.  The one above is from my plant.  I liked the square pattern in this Mandala that formed in the middle from one of the outward growing fronds, the water droplets are on one of the base fronds.

Rosecrans Cemetery

Just came back from a trip to San Diego, we went to the Cabrillo National Monument to see the tidal pools on the ocean side of Point Loma and passed Rosecrans National Cemetery with rows and rows of white headstones. San Diego has a big Naval pressence. You can see the bay and downtown San Diego on the edges of the Mandala after following the radiating lines of headstones.  The cemetery caps the peninsula, out to sea it looks like a solid line of white.
